In reality, every day is an adventure. Every time we step outside our homes the adventure begins. Whether we like it or not, life in itself is an adventure. Everything we learn, practice, and execute sharpens the tools in our minds for the next adventure.
Some are called to go beyond the everyday city adventures. For some it’s traveling the world, for others it’s backcountry exploration. It can even be a religious mission in another country. We must answer the call of adventure to fulfill our innate desire to explore, serve, and connect with the world. Suppressing the desire to adventure may negatively impact simple things such as productivity, relationships, and physical and mental health.
Going outdoors allows us to view our challenges from different perspectives. Exploration allows us to be present and not anxiously worrying about responsibilities and deliverables. Seeing water, and nature improves our mood and connects us with the world. Adventure challenges our inner fears and allows us to build a stronger self. Depending on bare essentials teaches us survival skills and deepens our gratitude for all of life’s conveniences. Learning how to navigate new geographical locations remaps our brains and establishes new neural pathways. The TED talk posted below ‘Can Adventure Travel Change You’ highlights some of these benefits and confirms the positive changes that adventure will have on your life!
